Zac Harmon Joins NorthernBlues Music

2004 IBC and 2006 BMA Winner releases fourth CD, debut for NorthernBlues Music, Inc.

NorthernBlues Music proudly announces Zac Harmon, winner of the 2004 International Blues Challenge, will release his new CD on NorthernBlues in early 2009.  From The Root is an eclectic mix of blues, reggae, soul and gospel.  "Zac fits right into the NorthernBlues roster - he stretches the boundaries of the blues, and I love that" says Fred Litwin , President of NorthernBlues.

“NorthernBlues is a label that respects the past but looks to the future with a vengeance.  I am proud to be part of this family” replies Harmon.

Born and raised in the heart of Jackson , Mississippi , Zac relocated to Los Angeles in the early eighties. He established himself as a writer and producer, crafting songs for the likes of the O'Jays, Freddie Jackson, Karyn White, Alexander O'Neal, Black Uhuru and the Whispers.

In 2002 Harmon pursued his lifetime dream to record his first blues project.   The result was 2002's Live at Babe & Ricky's Inn, an electrifying testimonial to Mississippi blues.  In 2004 Zac and The Mid South Blues Revue won the Blues Foundation's prestigious International Blues Challenge (IBC) title of 'Best Unsigned Band.'

In 2005 Zac's second CD, The Blues According To Zacariah won tremendous critical acclaim. It debuted at #14 on the Living Blues Radio Chart and received heavy rotation on XM, Sirius and The American Blues Network.  XM listeners voted Harmon 'Best New Blues Artist' in the inaugural 2005 XM Nation Music Awards.  In 2006 Zac Harmon won top industry honors with a Blues Music (formerly W.C. Handy) Award for 'Best New Artist Debut.'  He was also featured in the June/July 2006 issue of Blues Revue as one of the 10 artists representing the future of the Blues.

Far beyond an established recording artist, in 2007 Zac Harmon was named to the Board of Directors of the Blues Foundation, the umbrella organization of the genre. He was also chosen to endorse the Category 5 Amplification line of superb amplifiers.  He continues to tour nationally and internationally.

NorthernBlues Music, Inc. is a Toronto based blues label reaching beyond standard 12-bar blues.  NorthernBlues has garnered impressive accolades with Blues Music Awards, Juno Awards, Maple Blues Awards and Independent Music Awards. NorthernBlues artists have appeared in Billboard and the New York Times as well as The Today Show and Coca-Cola commercials. Currently in 2008 NorthernBlues boasts Blues Music Awards for ‘Album of the Year’ and ‘Band of the Year’ for Watermelon Slim and his CD The Wheel Man.

Zac Harmon and his 2009 release From The Root is an ideal progression in the long line of extraordinary NorthernBlues acts such as the grit of Watermelon Slim, soul of Janiva Magness, trance of Otis Taylor, funk of Mem Shannon and youth of The Homemade Jamz Blues Band.
